THURSDAY 16th DECEMBER
The morning looked cloudy and menacing. Mark set off before me for Bo Jo's cafe and by the time I set out it was raining so I took my rainproof jacket - just as well as it started teeming down by the time I was halfway there. Mark had just made it into Eastwood before the downpour started. We had breakfast and again Mark went off before me to do some shopping, whilst I completed reading the paper. We both got home before the heavens opened. It went quite dark and thunder and lightning abounded, with the rain really teeming down for some time.
The Test Match in Perth started at 1.30pm local time, and we settled in to watch. Things were looking good with England winning the toss and putting Australia in to bat on a green looking wicket. Things looked even better when they had lost half the side for 60 odd runs. However the tail wagged and in the end they were all out for 268. England negotiated the last 10 overs without loss for 29 runs. First day to England!
The storm that hit Sydney today claimed the life of a golfer when he was struck by lightning and massive hailstones rained down in some areas (although not ours). Robert called in about 5.00pm on his way to play football, but we opted to stay and watch the cricket. He went and picked Nick up who wanted to go to the football. The cricket finished about 8.30pm and after watching Warnie and an American comedy show we called it a night.
